Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of Early United States Cents

Obverse 20. Repunching shows on LI. Faint clash marks, apparently struck before state II of the preceding.

Reverse Z. Same wreath punch as some previous dies with the right ribbon end broken off, showing the spine and wedge-shaped point. A notch out of the lower edge of the left bow is visible. Each branch has four berries inside and two outside. The denominator slants down to the right and the final 0 is much nearer the border than l.

Die states: I. Faint obverse clash marks. The repunching on LI is sometimes hard to see.

II. Faint crack through the tops of (A)TE, later extending through TA; another (early) from the rim through the left foot of A(M) to a leaf.

III. Cracked through the tops of NITE. Repunching on LI remains visible.

Equivalents: Maris 45. Doughty 25. Hays 6. McGirk 3A. Ross 5-C. Chapman 29. Sheldon 47. EAC 37. Encyclopedia 1668.

Low Rarity 4.

Remarks: These were apparently struck between states I and II of the Starred Reverse and most likely were among those delivered June 24.
