Remarks: Discovered to be a new variety by S. H. Chapman, in the Sargent collection, 1910.

Reverse dies 0 and P are twins, probably made on the same day. They are so similar that, for a while, I wondered if a single wreath punch was used to make them, or even if 0 had been altered from P. The present descriptive findings rule out either possibility.

Obverse 10. ''Marred Field," as preceding.

Reverse P. Close copy of the preceding, with the same sprawled ribbons and huge dentils. Berry below right side of the upright of R; sharp leaf point aims at the right upright of (N)T. Incomplete leaves above (N)E and below u. Leaf point below the right edge of upright of T(E). Innermost leaf of the triplet is represented only by a point. Another leaf point is unusually close to the left side of O(N). Spine from a leaf point ia close to the base of C(A).

Die states: I. Perfect reverse. Sheldon claimed only one known.

II. Faint crack from the rim near 1(00), across the left ribbon, tip of lowest leaf, and into the field below UN. Later, this extends into adjacent I. Clash marks between the cap and head, in hair, right of throat, and right of the upper lip.

III. Extreme buckling obliterates ONE CENT and nearly touches R and (c)A. Leaves, ribbon ends, and right stem are still visible.
