Obverse 18. Always cracked as described below.
Reverse W. "Crossed E." Heavy short sliver out of the die crosses E(N), extending from the N(E) above, almost to c at left. This hand cut die has the ribbon bow high above the knot, ribbon ends normal, and stem ends short (especially the right one, which closely parallels part of the ribbon). Six berries on each branch with the berry stems exceptionally thin. Two berries left of bow are stemless and isolated. Many letters of the legend are irregularly placed: u is low and the final s is high Dentil above the space between IT has a long curving point; two immediately left of O(F) are spread apart with a "gap-toothed" look. Final zero is high and close to a thin fraction bar.
Die states: I. Cracked from the rim below bust about parallel to the pole, extending across the bust into hair.
II. This crack extends through the hair nearly to the cap. A branch develops, running along the truncation into the hair and later into the field; off the latter, another branch goes through 4 to the rim.
III. A second crack extends to the rim, eventually becoming very heavy along part of the truncation; the branch through 4 extends toward the first crack. Rust develops at lower left obverse.
IV. Thin straight crack from the rim to top left serif of E, lower curve of B, and hair.
V. A small piece has fallen out of the die atop 4.
