Die states: I. Perfect obverse. Reverse cracked, as preceding, along the left side of A(T) and down from the rim to the right top of (A)T.

II. Obverse clash marks at the chin and below. No reverse clash marks.
III. Narrow rim break before chin.
IV. Heavier clash marks. Arc crack through the date. Available specimens have obverse border too narrow to show if the rim break has advanced. See Remarks.
V. Rim. breaks before the nose and throat. Reverse rim breaks above (A)T and AM.
VI. Heavy obverse cracks from the rim to T and back to the rim, branching to y and to the rim.

VII. Retained cud on TY.

VIII. Rim break on TY.

IX. Retained cud on ER, beginning at the rim above B and ending at the break on TY.

X. Cud covering the top of E, though that letter no longer shows. Die failing below the arc crack at the date.

All reverse breaks heavy. Discovered about 1957.

Remarks: J. P. Hale Jenkins christened his state IV coin "Gilbert 41," though Gilbert had called it his number 12.

Two examples are known off-center at K-11:30 (Ruby I: 442 and Jack H. Robinson: 190).
