II. Obverse clash marks behind the curls and before the throat. Reverse clash marks from hair in the left wreath. Die crumbling is visible at the nose and lips.

III. Bulges left of the date and right of the pole.

Remarks: The die crumbling of state 11 is not apparent on variety 11.

The designation "Gilbert M" is from B. Max Mehl's fixed price list of Dr. French's collection, lot 110.

Probably about 16,000 were coined.

Jack H. Robinson had one (lot 161) which was double struck with the first striking about one-third off center and the second striking nearly normally centered. At least two flipover double struck examples are known. See "Oops!" chapter.
