Obverse 2.
Reverse A.
Edge: Gripped (I).
Die states: II through VI as described for number 2a.
Equivalents: Proskey 2. Doughty 94. McGirk 2A- 2D.Clapp-Newcomb 2. Sheldon 120b. EAC 2b. Encyclopedia 1701.
Rarity 2.
Remarks: The die state evidence shows that the press run using these dies contained a mixture of Gripped Edge (I) and Beaded Edge (II) planchets.
None have been seen to date showing a plain edge.
Several specimens show double impressions (same phenomenon as double profiles). An example from the Naftzger collection (New Netherlands 11/1973: 436) has a mint clip at K-11:30. An example from the Robinson S. Brown, Jr. collection (9/1986: 168) is off-center at K-2:30. Lot 224 in the Jack H. Robinson sale is double struck with both strikes off-center. See "Oops!" chapter.
