Obverse 8. Broken B. LIB are close with RTY successively lower. Moderately close date with 97 closer and the corner of 7 touching the drapery. The curl above the lowest curl is incomplete.
Reverse J. Six berries left and five right. The denominator is skewed left. Clashed dentils are visible at STATES, plainest at the left top of (A)T. Die of 1796 numbers 41-43.
Edge: Plain (III). Boulton blanks.
Die states: 1. Reverse clash marks, as noted above. II.
Cracked through the tops of ERT, to the rim at left top of T.
III. Obverse crack now extends through the top of Y. Two cracks cross it, from the rim through both arms of T to the forelock. Discovered by John Pawling.
IV. Cracked from the rim about 9:00 to top of the lower ribbon. The crack through ERTY now extends well to the right of Y, becoming a heavy rim break.'
