Reverse G. Five berries on each branch. Four stemless berries: at TE(D) joining a leaf point left of bow and isolated in the field; and both berries at (N)T, isolated and broken away from the wreath stem.
Edge: Plain (III). Boulton blanks.
Die states: I. Perfect reverse. Four known. II.
Reverse rim break above DST.
III. Cracked through the tops of TED, at first very faint.
IV. Obverse with multiple clash marks at the ribbon and throat.
V. Cracked through the tops of ATE to the rim, heaviest between TE.

Remarks: Discovered by Howard R. Newcomb, early in 1944, but if David Proskey (died 1928) owned the Hines coin, he may have known that it was a new variety.
