Obverse 19. Always shows the vertical crack first seen on state II of number 24.

Reverse R. Type of 1797, style I letters: straight tail to R. Hollow segment in right bow and parts of both rib-bons attenuated. Berry below C(E) has an unusually long slanting stem; berry below E(D) is attached to leaf above; two berries are located opposite top and bottom of (N)T. CE lean right. In AMERICA, E and I lean right and C is high.

Edge: Plain edge (PE).

Die states: I. No lump at end of drapery. No reverse clash marks. Clapp 28b-Z. Struck between states V and VI of number 24.

II. Lump at end of drapery, as number 24 state VI. Reverse has at least three sets of clash marks, from 8 and drapery, at OF A. Clapp 28c-Zb.

III. Cracked from the rim below end of drapery through the date, later extending into the field left of the lowest curl. Clapp 28d-Zb.

IV. The vertical crack is heavier, extending to the rim right of v.

V. Rust over much of lower obverse. See number 26. Equivalents: Clapp 37. Sheldon 177. EAC 25. Encyclopedia 1729.
