Obverse 17.
Reverse Q. Lump on the right side of O(N). Short lower serifs to E(S) and F. Chipped serif of c(E) appears as a spine. Foot of (N)T overlaps a leaf. Berries are larger than usual for this type. Very faint center dot.
Edge: Plain edge (PE), beaded edge (BE), and double-flange edge (DFE).
Die states: I. Obverse as before. Clapp 17b-P.
II, Extended cracks on drapery, plainest from its end across the bust. Faint diagonal crack across L. Reverse cracked from the rim through tops of AT, later reaching the top of E. Clash marks from drapery through OF and above A. Clapp 17c-Pb.
III, Bulge at STAT. Crack from D to rim above ST. Another crack from D to wreath. Yet another through UNITE. Clapp 17c-Pc (unlisted combination).

IV. Crack in lower right obverse field. Retained cud at ST and a loop crack above TA.
V. Cracks in the rim above ES o. Cracks at ITED are heavier. Cracked from the left terminal leaf to the base of O(F). A small chip joins the bases of ED.
VI. Multiple defects and clash marks at 17. Obverse cracks are heavier.
VII. Crack down from nose tip to that of state IV. Reverse rim break on (A}T to comer of adjacent E.
VIII. Reverse rim break now extended to cover top of E with part of dentils intact above it.
IX. Reverse rim break complete on TE, other die failure between these letters. A "retained cud" break above TA. Advancing bulges at D STATE OF AM.
X. Cracked through the bases of LIB. Clapp 17d-Pc.
XI. Rim break complete on ATES, crack extends from it to O(F). Clapp 17d-Pd.
XII. Severe bulges obliterate D STA and RICA 00. Equivalents: Doughty 130. Proskey 22. McGirk 18A, 18B. Clapp 21. Sheldon 161. EAC 22. Encyclopedia 1722.
