Obverse 6. Overdate, 1800/179. Serif and corner of 7 are both visible at top of the 8 and the left edge of the shaft of 7 is visible in both loops of 8. IBERTY are widely spaced with Y low.
Reverse J. "Hook" at the final s. This s was first punched too low, then partly effaced and repunched correctly. Left top of M is prolonged. The serif of c and bases of ES and F are normal.
Edge: Plain edge (PE).
Die states: I. Almost straight crack from the rim opposite the drapery end to the rim opposite the chin.
II. Rim break at the site of the crack.

Low Rarity 5+.
Remarks: Ross credited the discovery to Charles Steigerwalt, apparently unaware of its appearance in the McGirk serial.
Whereabouts of McGirk's discovery coin is unknown.
Ross described it from the French catalogue (lot 243) which may have been the same piece. This would be confirmed if Dr. French's coin came from McGirk.
