Obverse 7. IB are very close, E leans right, and RT are high. Wide date with 03 close and 3 touching drapery.

Reverse L. Long fraction bar is skewed to the right and slants up to the right. Broken right foot on all TS. Guide line is visible between S 0 near their tops.

Die states: I. No obverse cracks or clash marks. Reverse has at least six sets of clash marks, from hair within the wreath, from head near u, at lowest leaves on the left, and at the fraction to the right ribbon end and final A. Newcomb 8-K.

II. Faint straight crack from the right side of 3 through drapery and curls on the neck almost to the center dot, later extending to the rim below 3. At least three rows of clash marks from dentils through LIBER and to the left. Reverse has a very faint crack from the tops of ME to the rim between ER. Newcomb 8b-K. See Remarks.

III. Crack from the rim near 3 through end of drapery to the rim above. This originates from the same point on the rim as the crack of state II. Reverse guide line has faded out. Newcomb 8c-K.

IV. The crack of state III is very heavy and the die is failing between it and the rim near the drapery end. Reverse has at least two new sets of clash marks from the ribbon at NIT. Newcomb 8d-K.

V. Rim break at upper half of the crack of state III. ''Newcomb 8e-K."

Probably exists with a massive rim break on the entire site of the crack of state III.

Rarity 2.

Remarks: There must have been a tiny hoard of Mint State specimens.

A full obverse brockage exists, state III. The coin in an ANS box marked "8b-K," from Ellsworth, does not show the crack.
