above. 0 below F and leans left. Fraction bar is close to 100.

Die states: As noted. McGirk 10D. Newcomb 5-H.

Equivalents: McGirk 10D. Ross 21:9-1. Newcomb 8. Sheldon 250. EAC 8. Encyclopedia 1754.

Rarity 3.

Remarks: Apparently discovered by Dr. S. T. Millard, and first described by McGirk.

Layout of the fraction resembles number 3.

Sheldon called this "One of the most beautiful coins of the year and one of the three varieties most frequently seen in Mint State," ( Penny Whimsy, p. 300.) Apparently here, as in 1794 number 50, undue thinness (even with attenuation of details) was an attractant for the Good Doctor.

As for "frequently seen in Mint State:" there was apparently a tiny hoard of mint state specimens, but many must have been carelessly handled by date and type collectors, as the census shows only five Mint State examples with one of these currently untraced.
