Part of an extra s is visible below (E)S. 0 is below F. Top right berry has an unusually long stem and this berry touches the tip of the adjacent leaf.

Die states: 1. Additional obverse clash marks from MERIC near the right rim. Multiple clash marks from leaves below the ribbon and before the throat. Tops of MERIC are weaker than other details (repolished to remove clash marks from dentils of 1803 obverse 1). Newcomb 14-L.

II. Obverse clash marks mostly polished off. Reverse cracked from the rim near A(M) to right top of F, later to the rim above o. Newcomb 14-Lb.

III. Cracked from the rim to the right top of (A)T.

IV. New obverse clash marks from leaves near the ribbon and below the chin. Reverse rim break on F, extending from above the right side of 0 to the left side of A(M). Hairline cracks: near top of 0 to top of F; rim above E(S) to right arm of (A)T, branching through the lower left serif of E(S) to lower leaf tip of terminal pair (below final s): and from rim between D S to the leaf below S(T). Newcomb 14-Lc.

Frossard's Monograph (Ed. Frossard, United States Cents and Half Cents, Irvington, NY: the author, 1879. p. 27. Frossard mentions the following varieties of 1802: 1.Altered date. 2. 1/000, perfect die. 3. 1/000, cracked die. 4. Stemless wreath. 5. 1/000 with one stem to wreath. 6. 1/000 stemless wreath. Only numbers 2, 3, and 4 apply.) and Scott's Catalogue, (Edition not specified.) both mention a variety with only one stem to wreath (like the 1801 Three Errors). Others early in this century repeatedly reported specimens with corrected fraction. No such coins are known.
