Obverse 11. LIB are close and E leans right, its top above Bi broken base of Y was hand corrected. Close date with 02 closer together than other figures. Point of the curve of 2 almost touches the diagonal stroke.

Die states: 1. Perfect obverse, no bulge behind curls.

Very rare. Reverse cracked as in number 15, state VII: from the rim between ES, through the right branch, continuing to I(C) and the rim.

II. Bulge behind the hair curls. Newcomb 10-Hd.

III. Reverse cracked from the rim between F A to the top right berry. Newcomb 10-He.

IV. Cracked from the rim through the base of 1 and curl into the left field. Reverse arc crack from the rim through ST, through the leaf below A, to E(S), and to the crack of state 1. Newcomb 10b-Hf. See Remarks.

V. Reverse cracked from the rim through the left serifs of E(R) to the wreath. Three dentils above T(A) blur, as the die begins to sink.

VI. Reverse crack branches from the arc crack of state IV, through the terminal leaves, to the vertical crack of state 1. Newcomb 10b-Hg.

VII. Retained cud on ST.

VIII. Rim break on ST, later extending slightly below the top of T. Obverse weak at the lower dentils opposite the rim break. Usually seen in low grades. Newcomb 10b-Hh.

IX. Severe obverse clash marks from leaves before the throat with bulges behind the curls and in the lower right field. The reverse rim break is larger, extending to the rim almost midway between D S and above A. Heavy clash marks from the head, notably at the fraction.

Remarks: Obverse is similar to that of number 8. The ANS has a state IV coin in a box marked "10-Hd." Another in the same collection has an indent at the bust point.

Condition Census:

MS-65 Brought from the United States to Sweden in the first decade of the 19th century and passed down through the same family until given to Edwin Petterson, also of Sweden, who while on vacation brought the coin back to the United States and sold it through Coins of the Realm and Bonanza Coins on 3/9/1982 to Kenneth D. Pines.
