Obverse 14. LIBERTY well to the right. Point of curl below left edge of the upright of B, similar to obverse 13. High wave of hair nearly touches ER. Top of 1 almost touches the hair.

Reverse L. Widest fraction. A die scratch extends from the left stem end through u. Right stem ends in a sharp point. Stemless berries opposite (I)T, M, and R. Perfect NS. Broken TS. (N)T unusually far from a leaf.

Die states: 1. Clash marks are mostly removed through polishing. Dentils at the right are blurred. The obverse is bulged left of the lowest curl. Reverse arc crack through tops of ERICA. Newcomb 14-Mb.

II. Reverse is cracked from the rim to the right top of N, through tops of IT, and left top of E.

III. Heavy blurred clash marks from the leaves immediately below y and others below the chin. Right border is failing. Reverse crack of state II from left top of E returns to the rim. Newcomb 14-Mc.

Rarity 2.

Remarks: Struck either just before or just after 1803 number 1, which in turn preceded 1802 number 20. Most likely all three varieties were included among the 516,300 delivered February 22, 1803.

This obverse is very similar to the preceding.
