Die scratch at right end of the fraction bar. Defect at right side of both ribbons, minutely above top of the numerator.

Die states: I. Perfect dies. Very rare. Newcomb 11-I. II. Reverse has a faint crack through the tops of UNITED.

Faint crack on obverse through tops of IB. Light clash marks from the fraction at LIBERTY.

III. Arc crack from B down through ERT to below the center of Y. Reverse arc crack from rim through N, lowest left leaves, base of bows just above the knot, and right stem.

Another crack from the rim to the right upright of M and to a leaf. Newcomb 11b-Ib.

IV. Obverse has at least seven sets of jumbled clash marks below the knot, right of the face, and at BERTY.

The crack of state III now plainly joins that of state II at IB.

Reverse crack of state ill extends from the right stem through base of I and between IC to the rim. Cracked from the rim to left the top of (S)T. Newcomb 11b-Ic.

V. Obverse clash marks are fading. Reverse cracked from the upper leaves through (N)E and (E)N to the bow, joining the arc crack of state III. Newcomb 11b-Id.

VI. Reverse cracked from the rim through right side of (E)S, extending through wreath to join the crack of state V. Newcomb 11b-Id.

VII. Obverse arc crack is heavy. Reverse cracked from the rim through c(A) to a leaf. The crack of state IV extends through base of (S)T to the leaf below A. "Newcomb 11b-If." (So numbered on the Clapp box and discovered after publication of the Newcomb book.)

VIII. Cracked from the base of (N)E down right of (N)T to the adjacent berry. "Newcomb 11b-Ig." (Same comment as above).

IX. Heavy reverse rim break above STAT. (Penny Whimsy, p. 340, described from the Warfield coin (lot 343), illustrated here.)
