Reverse 1. Point of leaf at upright of D. UNITED irregular with most letters leaning left, the bases of TED appearing successively lower. Perfectly formed NS. Bases of ME are joined, All TS have broken right feet. C(E) partly buried in a leaf. Right edge of the left ribbon is recut.
Die states: I. The rim break below 18 is now about in line with the tips of neighboring dentils. A three-dentil break appears below 02. Newcomb 7d-G.
II. Bulge at end of the drapery. The rim break below 18 is wedge shaped, slightly taller at the right end, cracking further in the field below 1. Reverse has at least six sets of widely displaced clash marks from the forelock and profile. The ANS coin is labeled "Newcomb 7d+-G" on George Clapp's box.
III. Rim break below 18 is larger and rounded at the top (rather than wedge shaped), the new crack extending below 18. Rim break below 02 is now in line with tips of neighboring dentils. Reverse is cracked from the left upright of U, through the left ribbon to the knot, narrowly missing the left stem end. Newcomb 7e-Gb.
IV. Reverse is cracked from the rim above O(F) through 0, outer berries below F and R, through I(C) to the rim. Newcomb 7e-Gc. Discovered by Dr. C. E. McGirk.
V. Reverse is faintly cracked from the rim through the right arm of (A)T, a leaf, and (N)E to the crack of state
IV. Newcomb 7e-Gd.
VI. Die sinking inside the crack of state IV obliterates AME and leaves.
