Rarity 3.
Remarks: As with variety 16b, many are found on planchets showing lamination defects.
Probably comprised 6,500 to 7,000 of the 11,825 delivered July 6, from Watson & Greenleaf copper. Reason for the change in the edge lettering is unknown.
Usually 26 millimeters, though Sheldon-mentions one at 25 millimeters and another at 29.5 millimeters. I have never seen either; the latter would be broader than many Liberty Caps, with plenty of blank margin between the beaded border and rim. Any at 25 millimeters must have been made with the 16/16" blank cutter used in 1795 for half eagles.
Several have been seen with a plain edge. Dr. Dane B. Nielsen discovered one such, which he graded VF.3 See "Oops!" chapter.
