Die states: 1. Gash marks from the dentils above ERTY and faintly from the leaves below the chin Newcomb 9-F.

II. Narrow rim break above IB (centering may not permit this to show). Clash marks from the dentils through LIBERTY, plainest through ERT. Axial misalignment: weak at the face, end of drapery, and at OF. Reverse clash marks from IBER appear below the fraction and left ribbon. Newcomb 9b-F.

III. Rim break is heavier, protruding into the field above IB. Lump (die chip) atop upright of R. Reverse clash marks are fading with rust at the lower left. Cracked through the tops of NIT. Newcomb 9c-F.

IV. Reverse rim break on NIT, touching the comer of E. Extremely rare. (Penny Whimsy, p. 340. Two known, Dr. Harry Salyards and John D. Wright collections.)
