PCGS Set Registry Update
Gold has been climbing in terms of price over the past few years. Some collectors may only be able to purchase gold a few grams at a time. One such coin that weighs under 10 grams is the gold sovereign. It weighs almost 8 grams and consists of 7.32 grams of pure gold. There is another denomination called the half sovereign, which is aptly half of the sovereign weight. These denominations have always been popular with collectors and those seeking bullion coins. Some of these sovereign coins are traded at multiple premiums over the weight of gold because of their scarcity or brilliant condition. In 1915, all three Australian mints (Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney) struck both the sovereign and the half sovereign coins. The year 1915 is also the only year in the 20th century that the country of Australia has six gold minted in one year. The sovereign displayed above from the Melbourne Mint is included in the PCGS Set Registry titled 1915 Australian Gold Year Set for collectors to consider building.
