PCGS Set Registry Update
During the time of King Nebuchadnezzar in 600 B.C., 350 loaves of bread (which weighed about one kilo each) were equivalent in value to one ounce of gold. In 1900, the Gold Standard Act was enacted by President William McKinley, affixing gold at a value of $20.67 per troy ounce. A troy ounce of gold comprises 480 grains, and the dollar was valued at 23.22 grains of pure gold in 1900. Seven denominations were struck in gold by the United States government in 1900. The scarcest issue of all these coins is the $10 San Francisco gold eagle, which has a mintage of 81,000 pieces. This coin in PCGS MS63 would cost collectors more than $5,000 nowadays, but other denominations could be purchased in uncirculated grades at just a slight premium above the value of gold. The PCGS Set Registry has recently listed a 1900 Gold Year Set for collectors to consider building which will be challenging and best of luck building your sets.
