Rarity-4+. This Heraldic Eagle variety of the 1797 Draped Bust Eagle is distinctive for the three stars positioned directly above the eagle’s head and the "long, thick neck" profile. On the obverse, a die crack through the "7" in the date eventually progresses into a notable cud between the flag and the leg. This variety is seldom found with a perfect reverse; die cracks typically develop through "R" and "C" of AMERICA. In his research, John W. Dannreuther estimates a mintage of 3,500 to 5,000 pieces, with approximately 90–110 survivors. Despite its rarity rating, this is the most frequently encountered 1797 Draped Bust Eagle die marriage to survive in Mint State.
