Charles Morgan:

Rarity-5. While traditionally listed as the second Heraldic Eagle reverse in major references, researcher and collector Anthony Taraszka postulates that the 1797 Draped Bust Eagle, BD-3 (#45718) was likely struck after the 1798/7 issues. Though both 1798/7 die marriages share this reverse die, all known BD-3 specimens exhibit a significantly later die state. John W. Dannreuther estimates an original mintage of 1,500 to 2,500 coins; however, with fewer than 50 survivors and a negligible number in Mint State, this stands as the undisputed scarcest die marriage of the 1797 Capped Bust Right Eagles.
