CoinFacts Narrative Update

Philadelphia Mint circulation-strike quarters from 1879 to 1889 have low mintages ranging from 5,000 to 15,200. The reason for these tiny mintage figures was the Bland-Allison Act of 1878, which mandated the minting of prolific amounts of dollar coins to satisfy Western mining interests. This taxed the Mint's coining and die-making machinery, resulting in meager production of sorely needed minor coinage. This situation was not corrected until 1892 with the introduction of the new Barber coinage. Read more.

PCGS Set Registry Update

One full calendar year generally consists of about 365 days and possibly a fraction of a day. This is also approximately the time it takes Earth to circle around the Sun once. The Chinese lunar-solar calendar is based on 354 days, 12 months that consist of 29 and 30 days, respectively. Chinese tradition assigns a zodiac animal to each year, which is repeated every 12 years. For example, the year 2025 is known as "Year of the Snake" in the Chinese calendar, which represents good luck, rebirth, and divinity. These animal representations have made their way to numismatics over the past few decades and are popular among collectors. The silver antique finish 2-ounce lunar series began in 2020 which introduced the "Year of the Mouse" struck at the Perth Mint in Australia. In 2024, the Perth Mint celebrated its 125th anniversary with the "Year of the Dragon" depicted on the coin above with a special "P125" mintmark designation. This series continues and PCGS Set Registry has recently listed the Australian Lunar Silver (2oz) Antique Finish Set, Circulation Strikes (2020-present) for collectors to consider building.

Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build.
