PCGS Set Registry Update
Myanmar was formerly known as Burma until 1989. Myanmar borders China, Bangladesh, India, Laos, and Thailand. Lower Burma was ruled by Great Britain since 1824, and the country became a valuable asset during the opium trade with China. The British also had a great desire for the teak wood forests that existed within Burma. Great Britain struck silver coinage dated 1852, which entered circulation in November of 1865. Several denominations exist within the series, and the highest-denomination coin in silver is the kyat, which is synonymously known as the rupee. British rule ended in 1948, and coins were no longer minted in Great Britain for Burma after 1965. Collectors nowadays will pay handsome prices for an 1852 Kyat that exists in a grade of PCGS MS63, as shown above. This coin is part of the Burma Silver Denomination Set, Circulation Strikes (1852) listed for our members to build.
Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build.
