CoinFacts Narrative Update
The abundance of 1914-S Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles available today is largely attributed to hoards containing thousands of examples that began surfacing in the 1960s. PCGS Set Registry Update
Each year a new Libertad Onza (one ounce) coin is released in an uncirculated finish by Banco de México. The bullion series was launched in 1982, and each coin contains one ounce of .999-fine silver. The coin's obverse design exhibits the winged Liberty, while the reverse depicts an eagle with a snake grasped within the predator's beak and in the bird's talon. The design remained similar until 1991 and a design change was made for the next few years creating two types. A 1991 Type I Libertad Onza is more common than the scarce transitional 1991 Type II Libertad OnZa, of which only 50,000 coins were minted. Mint sets were introduced in 1991 and included fractional coins such as the 1/20, 1/10, 1/4, and 1/2 Oz.coins with the Type II Libertad OnZa. The Type II OnZa Libertad shown above is part of the 1991 Mexican Onza Libertad Year Set Circulation Strikes for collectors to consider building.
