The 1942-D over Horizontal D Jefferson Nickel is a relatively strong variety that is usually visible by the unaided eye. This variety is also popular among Jefferson Nickel collectors. PCGS Set Registry Update
The crystal-clear blue waters of the Bahamas when calm must have had seafarers of yore in awe. Thriving sea life could be seen with the unaided eye. There is an area called Bimini, which is the westernmost district of the Bahamas. A north and south island both exist here and are renowned for deep sea fishing. The islands called "Cat Cay" are named after the "cat line" sailing vessel, which has a single mast set noticeably forward in the bow with a long pole. The Cat Key Yacht Club started in 1935 and is located on the western edge of the Great Bahama Bank. At this club one can fish, sail, golf, and enjoy luxurious amenities with a membership. In 1946, tokens were issued in denominations equivalent to $1, 50 cents, and 25 cents (all based on USD) that could be redeemed for gaming. These tokens were designed by the owner's daughter and issued up until 1967. Today, these tokens are collected and sought after by enthusiasts. This interesting nickel-plated Cat Cay 1/2 Key (50 cents) token pictured above is part of the PCGS Set Registry listing titled Bahamas No Date Cat Cay Yacht Club Key Token Set (1946-1967).
