PCGS Set Registry Update

On November 22, 1963, the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated. It was one of the saddest days in American history and sent sociopolitical shockwaves around the world. A month after Kennedy's death, United States Congress enacted a law to issue the 50 cents denomination bearing his portrait. This coin replaced the half dollar carrying the motif of Benjamin Franklin that had been in circulation for over 15 years. On March 24, 1964, the new Kennedy Half Dollar was released for circulation to hearty public reception. The 1964 issue was also the last circulation-strike half dollar produced in a 90% silver format. The 1964 50 cents silver coin shown above is part of the PCGS Set Registry listing titled 1964 Year Set.
