PCGS Set Registry Update
The mammal known as the echidna is indigenous to New Guinea and Australia. This creature is covered with quills and ants are a staple of their diet. Echidnas look similar to anteaters and also resemble the hedgehog. Although these mammals are short, they have powerful limbs and can dig effortlessly using their large claws. The echidna generally can be found in forests and wooded areas, and they are excellent swimmers. In 1966, Australia introduced the decimal system into coinage and various themes displayed on the coins. The echidna has been gracing the 5 cents denomination from the very beginning. This 1966 Australian 5 Cent proof coin shown above is part of the PCGS Set Registry listing titled Australian Five Cents Copper Nickel, Proof (1966-present).
