PCGS Set Registry Update
Ireland is a country that is rich with history from many surrounding European nations. The Vikings were the first to plunder the Emerald Isle around the year 795 and ruled what is known today as Ireland for a little over 150 years. The English conquered most of Ireland over the next few hundred years, and by 1603 they took full control of the country. It wasn't until December 6, 1921, that an Anglo-Irish treaty was signed, and exactly one year later Ireland became a free state. Coinage was first issued under Ireland in 1928, and the largest denomination is the 1/2 crown. The obverse of the 1/2 crown displays the Trinity College Harp while the reverse shows the Irish sport horse. The 1934 1/2 Crown shown above is part of the PCGS Set Registry listing titled Irish Silver 1/2 Crown Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1928-1943).
