PCGS Set Registry Update

Commemorative coins can illustrate various themes. Some may depict historical sporting moments, such as the Olympics, and other coins may acknowledge a certain historical figure. Commemorative coins are generally minted in limited quantities and sometimes distributed in special packaging. Bulgaria is one country that has issued commemorative proof coinage since 1976 highlighting various moments in time. In 1981, the 2 Leva coin issued shows a mother and child standing in front of a radiant sun, which is reminiscent of Art Deco. The commemorative 1988 2 Leva coin depicts the University of Sofia, which celebrated its 100th anniversary and one of the most innovative designs within Bulgarian coinage was minted in 2003. The theme of the 5 leva coin "Childhood," and the piece displays a child on a rocking horse, rocking away without a care in the world. What differentiates this coin from most coins is the vibrant and precise enamel work that is exhibited. This coin is included in the PCGS Set Registry Bulgarian People's Republic Commemorative Copper Nickel, Proof (1976-2005) set recently listed for collectors to consider building.
