Jaime Hernandez:
The 1860 Proof Indian Cent has a reported mintage of 1,000 coins being struck. However, many of the coins went unsold and were melted by the Mint. Therefore, the survival rate is much lower and possibly a few hundred examples survive in all grades combined.
Most coins in existence probably grade at about PR63 - PR65 condition. In PR66 condition there are only two examples known with none being finer. With cameo contrast it is one of the most difficult dates to find with cameo surfaces from the Copper-Nickel cents that were struck from 1860-1864.
