Proof 1877 Half Eagles are extremely rare, with only about a dozen known. Most are either brilliant Proofs or Cameos, and most are either PR64 or PR65. This date appears at auction infrequently. For example, since 2000, only four separate examples have appeared at auction, usually with two to three years separating them.
