David Akers (1975/88):
Few, if any, U.S. gold coin issues come more well worn than this very rare date. Since all 1875-CC Eagles are softly struck, the result is that obtaining an 1875-CC with a presentable appearance is nearly impossible. This issue is tied with the 1864-S and 1867-S in rarity according to average grade. Overall, this date is similar in rarity to the 1872-CC, 1873-CC and 1876-CC, all three of which have substantially lower mintages than the 1875-CC.
Ron Guth:
The Saddle Ridge Hoard of gold coins, discovered in 2013 in northern California, contained only a single exaple of an 1875-CC $10. However, at PCGS AU55, this piece was significant enough to make it into the Condition Census for this date.
