The 1801 Half Dime is one of the more common dates of the series, though all are scarce. Two moinor die varieties make up the entire mintage of 27,760 pieces. The vast majority of the survivors are in worn condition and less than ten Mint State examples are known of this date. The best example is an amazing MS66 example that is at least two points better than its nearest rival. Like most early Half Dimes, many have been damaged, bent, holed, or repaired over the years, so either stick with certified examples or check out any potential purchases with a competent expert.
