CoinFacts Narrative Update
The 2007 Thomas Jefferson $10 First Spouse Coin was the third issue in the First Spouse Program. Since Jefferson did not have a spouse while serving as president of the United States, a symbolic motif of Liberty was used for the obverse design. The coins were released to the public on August 30, 2007. This was a popular coin because of the Liberty design. The Mint allowed only one coin per household and, despite the ordering limits, the coins still sold out quickly. Read more.
PCGS Set Registry Update
The 1970s was the decade when video games were introduced to the consumer market. Games such as Pong, Tank, Asteroids, and Space Invaders were among the growing variety of titles that were available to play. One of the most iconic titles in the history of video games was released on May 22, 1980: Pac-Man (Pakkuman). It was developed by a Japanese company called Namco Limited. The lead engineer was Iwatani Tohru, and he wanted to create a game without violence that would appeal to women. In Pac-Man, the namesake character eats dots on a digitized maze-like board and is constantly being chased by ghosts named Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde. If any one of these ghosts capture him, Pac-Man shrivels up and disappears from the screen. Should Pac-Man eat one of the four energizing dots in the four corners of the board, he turns the tables around on the ghosts and capture them for a brief period. Pac-Man also meets Mrs. Pac-Man within the game during intervals between levels. In 2022, the country of Niue created a five-coin set to commemorate Pac-Man. The coin shown above is the original conceptual pixel design for Pac-Man, which is included in the PCGS Set Registry titled Niue Colorized Pac-Man Ms. Pac-Man and Ghosts $2 Set, Proof (2022) for collectors to consider building.
Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build. The PCGS Set Registry offers many different sets from all over the world and specialty sets for advanced collectors. We appreciate your continued patronage!
