CoinFacts Narrative Update

The 5 Oz. America the Beautiful Quarters are the largest coins ever struck by the U.S. Mint. The Mint produced two different versions of these five-ounce silver coins. One was struck as an uncirculated version (PCGS recognizes them as Specimens) and a bullion issue that could be purchased only by Mint authorized distributors. To obtain the bullion strikes the Mint authorized distributors had to pay the spot price of silver plus an additional $9.75 premium for each coin. Read more.

PCGS Set Registry Update

Texas is known as the Lone Star State within the United States. The state became independent from Mexico in 1863, which was under Spanish rule. Similarly, Cuba became free from Spanish rule on May 19, 1902, and their flag bears one star. Coinage was first introduced in the year of 1915 and consisted of several denominations struck in copper-nickel, silver, and gold. All coins were produced at the Philadelphia Mint, and the star design was used for all coinage with the exception of pieces struck in gold. Gold coins bear a portrait of Jose Marti, who is a national hero in Cuba and one of the founding fathers of the nation. The largest coin in this series is the one peso coin depicted above. Two versions exist: a high-relief issue and low-relief design. This peso series ended in 1934, and the PCGS Set Registry recently listed the Cuban Star Peso Set, Circulation Strikes (1915-1934) set for collectors to build.

Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build. The PCGS Set Registry offers many different sets from all over the world and specialty sets for advanced collectors. We appreciate your continued patronage!
