PCGS Set Registry Update

One ruler of many that the people of Mexico revere was known as Cuauhtémoc. His name translates into "one who has descended like an eagle." Although his reign was short lived, from 1520-1521, he was a cousin of the great Moctezuma Xocoyotzin. Both of these men crossed paths with Hernan Cortes of the Spaniards, who sought gold from the Aztecs. When the Aztec empire was in decline during the Spanish conquest, Moctezuma had died toward the end in 1520, and Cuauhtémoc was elected as the new ruler. His education included being trained in military warfare, and he excelled as a warrior. Cuauhtémoc fought the Spaniards until he was captured. Cuauhtémoc asked Cortes to leave the city of Mexico untouched as his wish. Cortes did. However, Cortes tortured Cuauhtémoc to find out where the fortunes of gold exist within Mexico, and he would not succumb. Cuauhtémoc symbolizes indigenous nationalism among the people of Mexico, and his spirit lives on in coinage as well. The coin shown above is part of the 1948 Mexican Year Set that PCGS has listed for collectors to consider building.

Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build.
