This is the fourteenth year in which the Mint has struck $50 Proof American Gold Eagles for collectors.

Issue Date: On April 21, 1999 the Mint announced that order forms would begin to ship out on April 30, 1999 which would allow customers to order the coins directly from the Mint.

Issue Price: $575 for the 1 oz. Proof coin. And $999. for the 4 coin set.

Maximum Authorized Mintage: 8,000

End of Sales: December 31, 1999.

Notes: To celebrate the success of the American Gold Eagle coin series, the Mint also sent a special poster as a gift to customers who spent over $150 on any of the different Proof Gold eagle coins that year. The poster was created by Oren Sherman representing an Art Nouveau of the original 1907 Saint Gaudens' coin design.
