It is not known how many 1838 proof $10 Liberties were struck but it is known that only three survive today. All three coins are choice to gem quality. The Parmelee-Woodin-Newcomer-Green-Farouk-Pittman specimen sold in the May, 1998 Pittman auction for $550,000.
There are four known proofs, one in the Smithsonian Institution (scratches above the eagle on the reverse), the second in the Eliasberg Collection, a third in the John J. Pittman Collection (Ex-Farouk, Col. Green), and a fourth in a New York Collection (Ex-Cardinal Spellman).
