Pre-sales of the 2021 Christa McAuliffe Uncirculated and Proof Silver Dollars began on January 28, 2020. The pre-sale price for the Uncirculated coin was priced at $69. And the pre-sale price for the Proof coin was priced at $74 each. The maximum authorized mintage between both the Uncirculated and Proof coins was 350,000.
The coins were issued to honor Christa McAuliffe, a school teacher who was chosen to participate in the Aeronautics and Space Administration's Teacher in Space program. Unfortunately, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded at a launch that took place on January 28, 1986. McAuliffe and six other astronauts perished during the launch. A $10 surcharge from each coin will be donated to, The First Robotics Program.
