David Akers (1975/88):
The 1798 14 Star reverse Half Eagle is a very rare coin in any condition. As the auction data clearly shows, it has appeared on the market with less fequency than many more highly touted dates in the series. I have never seen an unc and no more than a few that graded as high as EF or AU. When available at all, VF or so is about all one can expect. All specimens I have seen have all had the same die break network on the reverse. Also, the star directly behind the eagle's head is usually very weak.
