The $5 2006-W Gold Eagle was the first Mint State $5 Gold Eagle that was intentionally struck with a W mint mark. In 1999 the Mint accidentally struck some Mint State coins with Unfinsihed Proof Dies However, these coins are classified as errors or varieties since they were not intended to be struck as Uncirculated coins.
The $5 2006-W Uncirculated Gold Eagles were also struck in specially prepared blank planchets and polished dies giving them a Satin or Burnished type appearance.
