David Akers (1975/88): Description: Obverse. Similar to J-1577 except that the rim or border is not as wide. Reverse. Similar to J-1577 except that the denomination reads TEN DOL.

Comments: The only specimen of this pattern that can be traced today is owned by Paramount International Coin Corporation who obtained it from Dr. J. E. Wilkison in 1973. There is also just one auction record, the Parmelee sale of 1890, and so it is more than likely that the Parmelee specimen and the Paramount piece are the same.

Dr. Wilkison acquired the piece from Dr. Judd's collection in 1962 but the pattern's history prior to that, except for the probability of it being the Parmelee specimen, is uncertain. However, it is a distinct possibility that this piece, along with J-1575, J-1577 and J-1579, was obtained by Dr. Judd from the Col. Green collection.
