Jaime Hernandez:

The Alice Paul Spouse Coin is the first coin issued in 2012 representing the Spouse Coin Series. Interestingly, Alice Paul is also the first non-Spouse design to be issued in the Spouse coin Program.

Since Chester Arthur was single during his 1881 to 1885 Presidential term, the Mint chose the Alice Paul design. Alice Paul played a significant role in the suffrage movement which helped give women the right to vote. She was born in January 15, 1885 during the Presidency of Chester Arthur, therefore, the Mint chose her design to be featured on the Chester Arthur Presidential Spouse coin.
