This is the sixth year in which the Gold Buffaloes have been produced by the U.S. Mint. The Mint first began taking order for the 2012 $50 Mint State Gold Buffaloes on March 05, 2012. The coins were only offered to Mint Authorized Purchasers and in return they offered the coins to the public. In the first day of sales approximately 5,500 total coins were ordered.
