The $50 - 2011 Proof Gold Eagles were offered in a 4 Piece Proof Set or as an individual coin by the U.S. Mint. The coins first went on sale on April 21, 2011. The price for the individual coin was set at $1,735. While the price for the 4 Piece Proof Set was set at $3,215.
The single coin option had a maximum authorized mintage of 30,000 coins. Another 40,000 coins were devoted to the 4 Piece Proof Set, making the total possible mintage of 70,000 coins struck. By October 14, 2011, the single coin option reached its total maximum mintage of 30,000 and were sold out.
