2008 Double Prosperity Set
Since August 08, 2008 translates into 8-08-08, the U.S. Mint produced and offered a special 2008 Double Prosperity Set for that day. The U.S. Mint intuitively prepared this special two coin set which consisted of a $25 2008-W Uncirculated Gold eagle and a $25 2008-W Uncirculated Gold Buffalo coin.
Both coins were struck on specially prepared and burnished planchets. The coins were then placed in an elegant hardwood box with a Certificate of Authenticity. There were approximately 8,000 coin sets sold.
The coins in the 2008 Double Prosperity Sets were identical coins to those which were sold separately by the U.S. Mint, the only difference was the packaging. Therefore, PCGS did not recognize these coins differently or did not implement any special programs or insert labels for these coins.
