The 2008-W Uncirculated Platinum Eagles were struck with special burnished planchets, giving them a different appearance than that of a Mint State or Proof coin. The 2008-W Uncirculated Platinum $100 Eagles were officially offered by the Mint beginning on July 17, 2008. They were offered directly to U.S. Mint customers at a premium over spot platinum prices.
Most examples graded very well and in the MS68-MS69 range. Nicer perfect MS70 examples were much tougher to find.
